In today’s world, the need for activism, advocacy, and allyship has never been greater—both in the workplace and in social settings. You may have wanted to support a cause, speak up as an ally, or take part in activism but felt uncertain about the right approach or concerned about potential consequences. This session provides a space for open discussion and practical learning on how to engage in advocacy effectively, safely, and impactfully. Guest Speaker: Arub Syed We are pleased to welcome Arub Syed, Assistant Editor at Thomson Reuters and an accomplished freelance journalist. With nearly a decade of experience writing for platforms such as Metro, DesiBlitz, Write Brain Studios, and Girl Dreamer, Arub is deeply passionate about issues of identity, race, and religion. Arub is an experienced panel speaker and workshop host on allyship and has spearheaded impactful fundraising campaigns for various social justice causes. Holding a degree in Law with Spanish, Arub’s expertise extends to humanitarian law and social justice, making her a valuable voice in this discussion. |
This session will cover key strategies for effective advocacy, including: - Being an impactful ally: Understanding the role of an active ally and how to support communities in a way that is responsible, respectful, and meaningful. - Protesting safely and effectively: Knowing your legal rights and best practices to ensure personal and collective safety in advocacy including peaceful protest. - Building and sustaining fundraising efforts: Strategies to launch and maintain a reliable, ethical, and transparent fundraising campaign. - Leveraging digital tools for advocacy: Utilising online platforms, social media, and crowdfunding tools to amplify awareness and support. - Expanding your advocacy network: Connecting with like-minded individuals and organizations to strengthen your impact and accelerate your mission. This is an interactive session, and attendees are encouraged to share their experiences and insights.
