Nursing Associate is a stand-alone role as well as also providing a route to Registered Nurse. It’s intended that the role will enable registered nurses to focus on more complex clinical duties. Nursing associates work in the public, independent and voluntary sectors and it is a statutorily regulated profession.Nursing associates are trained to work with people of all ages and across all four fields of nursing: adult, child, mental health and learning disability.

New to Practice

NHS England has now ceased funding for The New to Practice scheme from 31 March 2024. 

Although the New to Practice scheme is no longer funded by NHSE, we remain committed to supporting newly qualified and new into general practice Nurses. We invite you to join our monthly educational sessionswhich take place on the second thursday of the month, where you can connect with peers at a similar career stage and gain valuable knowledge and updates through our New to Practice timetable. Additionally, we host a WhatsApp group for New to Practice Nurses. If you would like to be added, please complete this short form:

While these sessions are no longer funded, we believe they offer a valuable opportunity for networking, learning, and mutual support among early career nurses.

Education Sessions

Education sessions take place on a Thursday of the calendar month between 1-4pm either virtually or face-to-face. Our New to Practice GPN Lead is responsible for organising the educational sessions.

A timetable of events is emailed to delegates and practice managers on a 6 monthly basis to ensure GPNs are released to attend the sessions as part of their training.

Career support

1-1 Career Conversations

These sessions are designed for all primary care staff in Derby and Derbyshire who are contemplating their career paths. Our Hub Plus colleagues, who possess relevant experience and qualifications, are available to provide guidance on career pathways, progression plans, and available options. These conversations typically last 15-30 minutes and are conducted online via Microsoft Teams.
