We are working with local secondary schools, sixth forms and colleges to highlight general practice as a career choice. You’ll find different roles within general practice on our website and we frequently attend events and workshops.
Schools and colleges
The Hub Plus Derbyshire are responsible for delivering high quality training and development as well as supporting general practices with recruitment and workforce progression. We are working with the practices to offer apprenticeships at a variety of levels and want to improve the career prospects for young people entering Primary Care at any level.
We have a flexible approach and can tailor the offer to your school’s specific requirements. We can also provide careers support virtually.
Examples of support are:
Enrichment workshops – practical, interactive sessions that can complement curriculums, embedding theoretical knowledge and support careers advice and development. These could include:
- Careers in Primary Care and General Practice
- Apprenticeships in administration, pharmacy and nursing
- Skills and values (including the importance of maths and English)
Mock interviews – preparing students interested in health and social care careers for the world of work by resembling a real job interview as closely as possible. We can also support with students preparing to apply to university for medical courses. Feedback will be provided on the student’s interview performance and CV/application advice can also be given.
Marketplace events – raising awareness of the variety of roles Primary Care has to offer via an information stall, usually at a careers event. Advice can be provided around entry routes, work experience and how to apply for opportunities.
