What is Social Prescribing?

Ahead of Social Prescribing Day on the 14th March, we sit down with Personalised Care Roles Ambassador, Fay Benskin and talk about Social Prescribing and how you can get support.

What is Social Prescribing?

Social prescribing is a non-medical approach to improve health and wellbeing by engaging with support and services in the local community.

Social prescribing gives the time to think about what matters to you and build a plan of support.

What can people do if they need help?

Contact their GP Practice and ask to be referred to the Social Prescribing link worker.

How does Social Prescribing help people?

A social prescriber can link patients with support and services in their local community, it helps people to build connections and improve their health and wellbeing.

What do you get out most from the Social Prescribing Day?

It is a great opportunity to celebrate the amazing work of the social prescribing link workers. Also, great to recognise the progress our patients have made.

How has Social Prescribing grown over the last several years?

Over the past few years social prescribing has become embedded into general practice. GPs recognise the great value the service brings.

There are around 87 social prescribers working across Derby and Derbyshire, doing amazing work every day with people in the community.
