The Hub Plus Derbyshire are working with the University of Derby and the University of Nottingham to provide a new and exciting placement opportunity for nursing and pharmacy students.

Students on Tour 2024 – an exhilarating new placement opportunity designed for nursing and pharmacy students from the University of Derby and the University of Nottingham.

This opportunity allows for these students to conduct vital health checks and address prevailing health disparities across various General Practice Surgeries in the Derby City area. By actively contributing to the efficiency of practice's on these placement days, students will directly impact the reduction of multiple staff members workloads in practice, including HCA's, Nurses and even GP appointments, and therefore enhancing the overall effectiveness of healthcare delivery.

Throughout the placement, students will be supervised by trained staff at The Hub Plus Derbyshire and their respective Universities tutors. Students will be immersing themselves in real-world scenarios and learning about professionalism in the workplace every step of the way. Every interaction with patients will be an opportunity to foster meaningful engagement and leave a positive imprint on the practice and members of the public.

It’s not just a placement: it’s a gateway to making a real difference in communities with the future NHS workforce.

 

University of Derby University of Derby

University of Derby

University of Derby students participating in this placement opportunity will complete a full 4 week placement and will primarily operate from The Hub Plus Derbyshire's offices in Derby City. During the placement, students will undertake a project, although this will not be assessed. Students can expect a range of engaging teaching sessions and learning opportunities at our offices, facilitated by various clinical staff members as well as the opportunity to attend some of our training events which are open to existing NHS staff members. One day per week you will be placed at a General practice Surgery in Derby City with other students to complete health checks for members of the public, with supervision.

  • Placement will start 12/08/2024 and end 06/09/2024
  • The Hub Plus Derbyshire offices: RTC Business Park, Floor 2 Kelvin House, London Road, Derby DE24 8UP
  • Timetables will be provided to all students who take part in this placement. This will include all training days, addresses, expectations and also any hybrid days such as working from home.
  • As you will be expected to join us at our offices and travel to approximately 3 different practices in Derby during your placement, students can claim community placement miles from the University of Derby for any travel.

University of Nottingham

For University of Nottingham students, this is an optional placement. This programme will not only enhance your knowledge and confidence for health checks and health inequalities within General Practice, but it is also a great learning opportunity and great experience for your future career endeavours.

Throughout the placement, you’ll have a structured schedule. Firstly, there will be a mandatory training and induction day for ALL students held at our office site in Derby City, ensuring you are fully prepared for the placement. Following this, for three consecutive weeks, you’ll spend 1 day per week at a General Practice Site’s in Derby City alongside fellow students. Here, under supervision, you will conduct health checks for members of the public, contributing to valuable community healthcare initiatives.

  • Mandatory induction day: 12/08/2024.
  • Placement days 1,2 & 3: 13/08/2024, 20/08/2024 & 27/08/2024
  • Mandatory close day: 06/09/2024

General Practice

This is a great opportunity for practices to engage patients and staff in a placement that will benefit all those involved. Plus, it’s only a one day commitment for practices/PCNs!

How you can help: To accommodate a cohort of approx. 10 students. We will need sufficient car park/reception/ spare clinical room space for 1 day only! At least one SSSA Supervisor on site if possible.

During placement days, we will provide:

  • All equipment needed - gazebos, tables, chairs, refreshments, signs, and clinical equipment for the students.
  • Supervisors from the universities and The Hub Plus Derbyshire on site at all times.
  • Patient engagement and QUOF data at the end of the day to see what has been conducted and what difference we have made.

Patient Information.

If you are interested in having a student do your health check, come along to join us! You don’t need an appointment, but you will need to be a registered patient at the general practice surgeries we visit.

There will be a triage policy included as part of the work we are doing. This means that if we find a particular issue in your health check, the practice will be required to see you on the day.

The General Practice sites we will be visiting are as below:

- 13/08/2024 Horizon Healthcare Derby.

- 20/08/2024 Travis Perkins Long Eaton. 

- 27/08/2024 TBC
